Description
This large scarf or shawl is handmade and hand dyed with all natural dyes (using native plants, herbs, and fruit) by a women's co-op in Guatemala. Most of the cotton used to make these scarves is grown in the women's homes. They then harvest it, make thread, dye it, and then weave (using the backstrap loom) the final product. Additionally, it is super soft!
Ancient Mayan techniques ensure that the colors adhere to the cotton and don't fade. A scarf like this one will take a woman 20 hours to weave. One side is red and yellow while the other side is blue and yellow. This type of weave is extremely difficult to do well.
